Mastering The Basics Of Lead Guitar

Being the lead guitarist of the band is very challenging and it takes countless hours of practice for you to be able to pull off various stunts that you will only see being performed by professionals. If you are an aspiring lead guitarist, you may want to consider the following:

  • Scaling: One of the first things that you have to learn is scaling, particularly the pentatonic minor scale which is perhaps the most challenging scale in hard rock music. Practice this by playing it from one end to the other and then back as many as you can. Until you feel that your speed and pacing has increased and improved.
  • String Bending: Learning how to properly push strings on certain directions gives you the ability to manipulate the pitch of the note. One trick that can help you do this properly is by using any finger that is not doing anything.
  • String Skipping:  You can do this by ignoring the next string on the scale and hopping on to the next note below a particular string. Be reminded though that skipping too many strings can make the tune inconsistent as oppose to the sound that you are trying to create.

If you want to make the most out of your Gibson Les Paul at guitar center and improve on your lead performance, it is important that you practice consistently.
